Driving through the Fog

On March 10, I had one of the most frightening experiences in my driving career. On the way to church AND the way back, I drove through the thickest fog I can remember. Having driven to church on multiple occasions, I knew the basic direction I was heading, but I could not see more than 100ft in front of me (which made me very thankful for "stop ahead" signs)! While I was driving, I had to follow the path laid out by the lines on the road which were only apparent when my lights were shining on them, guiding me as I drove to my destination.

As I was driving, I thought about how similar our lives are to driving in a thick fog. We know our destination, Heaven. However, we often feel (or live) in a fog. We know where we're going, but we can't even see 100 ft in-front of us. We have no clue what trials, troubles, or joys lie around the corner. While going through the fog, we need a Light to show us the way--that Light is Christ. He teaches that he is the "Light of the World" (John 8:12)--the only way to Heaven and the guiding force leading us all the way there. As Christians, we have that Light at our disposal ALL THE TIME!!! Isn't that encouraging? In John 12: 35 and 36, Christ tells his disciples, "walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light." How true this is! If I had turned off the lights on the front of my car, my guiding force, I would have most likely gotten into a very serious car accident because I would have had no clue where I was heading. We as Christians should always be walking in the Light, following Him day by day, step by step. Sometimes we try to look ahead, but frankly, we can't! God is the only one who knows what lies ahead. So I exhort you, walk in the Light of Christ as he speaks daily through the Scriptures. Remember that "we walk by faith and NOT by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7).
