Don't Let Your Sponge Dry Out
My Sunday school teacher told the class a couple weeks ago "You are like a sponge. You come to church on Sunday and get all soaked up with God's word then you let yourself sit around and dry out." She went on to encourage us to be in God's Word daily, so that our spiritual sponges don't dry out. I thought that was such a neat analogy. How often it is that we do let ourselves dry out spiritually. We go to church for a spiritual "pick me up," then don't do anything within the week to keep ourselves refreshed, renewed, and rejuvenated about God and His Word. Personal Bible study is one of the most important parts of a person's spiritual life. It is in those quiet moments of study that God will begin to change you, conforming you into the image of Christ. What a wonderful thing! God just soaks us up with blessing and lets us ring them out on other people. But, it is only during those quiet times that God will speak, so soak it up! Don't let yourself dry out. Keep being soaked up daily, so you can do the work God has for you to do. Remember: a dry sponge doesn't work nearly as well as a wet sponge, so get soaked up and get to work! :D
